Artists in Residence.

Samir Malik (Samir is teaching tuesdays 12.30-3.30)

I create Artworks to touch, move and inspire us to find connection once again to the power and beauty of Spirit and to re-enchant us into the world of wonder and magic that underlies the everyday and connects all of existence. Drawing roots and inspiration from my travels across the globe and meetings with extraordinary human beings, including artists and spiritual teachers of all disciplines, as well as fusing different artistic traditions utilising classical mediums: ink and paints on paper and canvas, applied with kalams and brushes, as well as digital means of creation and manipulation, my Artworks take on a unique, avant garde and contemporary form that transcends boundaries and can truly be called global.

I have been commissioned Artworks and worked together with various organisations including The Big Issue Foundation, KOA, HSBC Amanah, IslamExpo, Lloyds TSB Bank, St. Marys Hospital Trust, The Muslim Literary Society, The Muslim Council of Britain, Siratt, Quba Islamic & Education Centre, Fisabilillah, as well as for private clients and businesses around Europe, The Middle East and the United States, including Royalty. My artworks are part of public as well as private collections around the globe and I have exhibited at The Houses of Lords, Alexandra Palace, County Hall, Regents Park Mosque, London and been featured in various periodicals, online as well as in print. I work currently on commission and am preparing a portfolio of Artworks for sale as originals. Prints of my Artworks are available for purchase from my deviantArt store, and 2008 Calendars of my Artworks are available at Siratt.

Chrissie Shirley B.A. Honours in fine art and sculpture (Chrissie will be teaching during the Summer term)

Guest artist Royal Academy, London. 1 - Workshops and classes at the art centre : looking around & learning to see. 2 workshop Fantasy & abstract art: using materials & other stimulus for self-expression. A day of discovery and creativity using the environment.

Learning and development: Learning never stops and keeps us flourishing and alive. I have always done and trained in art. Since moving to Ealing I have developed a new artistic view of the environment and life in the modern city. I specialise in portraits and I've expanded my skills and abilities working and exhibiting abroad, in France and Greece, and in this country. London is a special place with many over-layers of history. Johnson's island is full of history, magic, a place of transitions, of natural elements, the water, the plants and birds. I have been a guest artist for 2 years at the Royal Academy, and also for the Skyros Centre, Greece. I worked for many years teaching art with adults and young people, and as an art therapist.

Chrissie's statement as a teacher and artist. The Inner and outer world of each person is intimately and mysteriously connected. Drawing and painting and sculpture allow this to be communicated and to be developed. Only through creativity can we feel alive, and nurtured as individuals. developing through art -making gives us a chance for a unique and personal journey of awakening to self & life.
